Our top priority is to make sure that our patients receive the highest standard of care and the best possible outcome. This is why we sometimes make the decision to refer our patients to veterinary specialists or specialty clinics when advanced training or specialty equipment would be beneficial.
Our veterinarians take every opportunity to learn and grow. Every effort is made to stay current and skilled in the many aspects of animal health, and to provide comprehensive medical care for your pet. We like to think of ourselves as your pet’s “primary care doctor.” However, like human medicine, referral to a board-certified veterinary specialist may provide you with more options for your pet. Specialists have extensive experience and have usually completed years of rigorous internship and residency training, in addition to national board certification in their area of specialty. We are fortunate to have ready access to specialists in surgery, medicine, cardiology, and ophthalmology, just to name a few. In addition, referral clinics often have specialized equipment allowing them to perform procedures that are not normally undertaken by general practitioners.
Rest assured that when we refer your pet to another facility, we remain actively involved in his or her care, consulting with the specialist to ensure that your needs for follow-up care and rehabilitation are met.
